BOTM November: IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM

With Remembrance Sunday marking 99 years since fighting ceased in the ‘war to end all wars’, Lewis has chosen this month’s #BOTM.

It’s a bag we made for The Imperial War Museum in London. The famous war museum, tells the stories of the many men and women whose lives have been shaped by war from the First World War to the present day.

The building itself with its sleek, lofty interior designed by Foster & Partners, houses a spacious museum that invites visitors from all across the globe to wander and explore. From the exhibits to the interactive installations themselves, displays are specifically curated with children and young people in mind and, mostly importantly, a well crafted focus on the human aspect of war and the impact of conflict on people’s lives. Every object on display has a personal story to tell.

WBC bags for life printed bags for the Imperial War Museum in LondonWBC Bags for life, have printed several of these stories onto a number of different tote bags created as keepsakes sold in their gift shops. The Imperial War Museum has three gift shops and what strikes you most about the bag designs, is how well they are curated as collections. The same design used on a bag will often be carried through on a mug, a sticker, a wall magnet, a flag or a T-shirt. It’s clever product merchandising that allows the museum to rotate it’s featured products as and when exhibitions come and go.

November’s #BOTM was printed in the UK using WBC’s Express Bags for Life service. It is one in a series of designs made for the museum and forms part of its current collection (see image below). The Churchill bag was printed in just 5 days onto a 5oz cotton tote bags with black webbed handlesIt’s a clever 3 colour design that highlights the detailed text from Winston Churchill’s first speech as Prime Minister – ‘I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat’.

We love the Imperials’ collection, a perfectly timely keepsake that helps us all remember the personal sacrifices made by so many.
