The VM & Display show 2016 returned to its iconic home at London’s Business Design Centre last week, condensing its usual three days into a two day event that included for the first time, the BDC’s permanent gallery bays, degree show exhibition and other special features.
We dropped in on the show to see the hottest new products, ideas, trends and technologies which are being designed to stop today’s consumers firmly in their tracks. It worked for us! With key advances in technology like holographic mannequins and motion graphic signage, some of which is still in patent stage and yet to hit the market, but firmly stealing the show nonetheless. Here were some of our favourites.

Top Tip! It might not be the most expensive display of the day, but we loved this incredibly simple signage and display idea that we can easily see working in-store. Snap up a few of our vintage bulldog clips and hang menu boards or artwork from steel wiring. Simple!
Talk of the show Headworks presents a new concept in visual display and retail communication. An ultra realistic talking 3D holographic head with a life-size mannequin body. Who’d have thought? But as we walked round the corner and saw this staring at us, we let’s just say it got our attention immediately.
You can just imagine the myriad of creative possibilities this could have in-store or in your window design, with visual effects and sales messages moving around the head – it’s a striking display. headworks.co.uk

Annie Rickard Straus is a freelance lettering artist and designer, based mainly in London.
