Well our blisters have almost gone now and the shock of walking 26.2 miles is fast
becoming a memory, with our fundraising total now at nearly £2000 it feels that the
pain of the last few miles really was worth it.
We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the team spirit of walking with 17,000 other
people around London. Starting at 11.30pm we walked from Hyde Park, past
Buckingham Palace, through Westminster, over Blackfriars Bridge along the South
Bank past the London Eye, through Battersea Park and then through Chelsea and
up to Knightsbridge - finally heading back down to the river and on the long awaited
home stretch. (It’s exhausting just reading it..)
We were very slow and didn't finish until 9.30 in the morning - mostly due to the
multiple toilet stops which were used to disguise the need for a rest!
The hardest part was mile 18 and beyond, by that point we were completely
exhausted, tired and hungry. It was only the amusement of near hysteria, that
seemed to spread through us like a virus, that actually got us through the final
gruelling few miles. With the pain of every step increasing as daylight broke,
even the smell of fresh bread being baked couldn't take our minds off the pain of
putting one foot in front of the other. Helped along by the sight of a few weary
walkers flagging behind us we did finally manage to get to the finish line and collect
our medals.
Although we are a fairly fit bunch here at WBC we were all taken by surprise at how
tough the walk would be but felt very proud to have completed the walk and even
more proud to have raised much needed money for such a worthy cause.
Thank you for your support!
