Our Story

1989 Personalised Champagne Company called Liquid ID Launched and is based in Emsworth, Hampshire

 

1991 Company moves Clapham, London to a 100sq.ft serviced office with a small self-storage unit down the road. In response to demand they start offering wooden presentation boxes to go with their personalised champagne.

 

1992 With growing sales of wooden boxes, we launch The Wine Box Company which runs alongside Liquid I.D servicing customers who want packaging without the wine or Champagne

 

1994 We acquire Thomas Reed & Sons Limited (trading under the Vedravino name), a specialist packaging company after they went into receivership owing us a substantial amount of money.

 

1995 With sales growing fast we re-locate to our first 1250s sq.ft industrial unit in Wandsworth, London and have the offices and warehouse under one roof

 

1996 With growing sales of wooden boxes, we launch The Wine Box Company which runs alongside Liquid I.D servicing customers who want packaging without the wine or Champagne

 

1997 With sales still growing we take the adjacent unit to us in Wandsworth doubling our space to 2500 sq.ft

 

1999 We quickly run out of space and make the huge step up to an 11,200 sq.ft unit in Clapham

 

2000 With packaging sales dwarfing personalised Champagne sales we decide to concentrate on one area and LIQUID I.D is taken over by Liquid Gifts

 

2002 We open a small office in Hong Kong to handle our sourcing in the Far East.

 

2004 We launch the Bespoke Packaging business called WSPC (Wine & Spirit Packaging Company) to handle larger custom-made orders

 

2005 In the same year we acquireTOPOS Marketing Ltd who are the UK agents for Sizzle pack and for the first time we offer coloured shredded papers and fluted gift trays.A small part of their business imported Jute bags for bottles and jars and was almost overlooked by us but they proved popular and was the start of our foray into bags for life.

 

2006 Tree planting Project in South West France which is still going strong today with the second thinning happening in 2017 which produced usable wood for the first time. 2007 Winebox Company changes its name to WBC to reflect the increasing expansion of the product range into non-wine related packaging

 

2008 In addition to our Clapham HQ we rent 16,000 sq.ft of additional warehouse 7 miles away in Croydon and this warehouse feeds our pack and despatch operation in Clapham

 

2009 We acquire transit packaging specialist Boxed Bottle to expand our range of courier safe options

 

2010 We launch our Retail Display & Furniture business

2011 To get closer to our suppliers we move the Hong Kong office to Shanghai and WBC Shanghai opens its doors. It runs all our supply Chain in the Far East.We think it is hugely important to know all your suppliers and form a close partnership with them.

 

2012 To expand on our bags for life business we acquire Canby Ltd who were the pioneers of the Jute bag business in the UK

 

2013 We acquire Stanley Ball’s Portaglas business so we can offer the Rolls Royce of glass jack boxes to our customer base

 

2013 We rent the adjacent Unit in Croydon, doubling our warehouse space to 32,000 sq.ft and move our pack and despatch operation down there to be under one roof.

 

2014 We celebrate our 25th Anniversary and the offices move to Herne Hill where we still our today. 2 stops from Victoria and a great location fort our new Retail Display showroom.

 

2018 We rent the unit next to us in Herne Hill to launch our Gift Packaging Showroom, new product development area and Bags for Life design and sample studio. 2019 30th Anniversary
